WEEK 5 BLOG (2/6 - 2/12)

This past week, Indianapolis hosted the Superbowl.  There have been many opinions reported and written about the performance of this city as host.  For the most part, these reviews have been very positive.

Because of this, many have written that they believe Indy should become a regular host city.

Along with that, speculation has arisen that the city may bid to possibly host the game again in the near future.

With all of this being said, should the city invest the time / money / effort into trying to lure another Superbowl to Indy?  Was it worth the price that was paid (time / money / hassle / road closures / etc.)  Does the city ultimately benefit enough from playing host to the game to make it worthwhile?  If so, how often is reasonable?  Do you think that the weather played that big of a role in people's opinions?  (PART I due by 2/10; PART II due by 2/12)

  1. I think that the weather did not play much of a role this year. For the most part everything concerning the super bowl went very smoothly. I think that once every 7-10 years might be reasonable if of course it is bringing in enough. As for if it is only time will be able to tell if it was worth it.

    1. I agree with this, but if we were to try and host it that often, I think that some people may begin to get bored. Ergo, we'd have to keep adding and changing things to our city, which may not be worth it in the long run.

    2. I also agree with joey too because even tho it was knd of cold it didnt matter because there were tents and onside activities and streert heaters and everyone knows what to expect he it comes to weather andrverything was so organized and good

    3. I agree that it agould be held here once a decade or so but disagree that the weather didn't play that big of a part. If it were warmer, more people would have come.

  2. Of course Indy should try to get the Superbowl here again. Now we aren't just know for Indycars but for one of the best Superbowl experiences ever. The city definitely benefited from holding the event. I say that every 10 or so years is very reasonable for us to host the event. The weather was great this year which was very influential on swaying peoples opinions. I believe even if it was snowy and cold that we would have been prepared for anything.

  3. I think the weather had nothing to do with people's decision to go to the super . People are going to it no matter what. I definitely think Indy was/ is a great host and should host again in the future. The city profited a lot from it and got many great reviews from a whole bunch of important people. Indy should try to be a regular host and bring in that cash flow for the city!

    1. I agree that Indianapolis profited from the Super Bowl, but I disagree that the weather didn't play a big role in people's decision on whether or not to go.

    2. I think the weather played a small factor, but for everything else I fully agree with you, especially about bringing in that cash flow. It really helped out our state's economy.

    3. I completely agree with your analysis of the weather people are willing to pay so much just to come to the super bowl that I think they are more than willing to deal with the weather.

  4. I think it would be great for Indianapolis to be a host city again. With what I've read, and even heard from people, it really was one of the best times they've ever had at a Super Bowl. Many times, the Super Bowl is centrally located in a party city that has warm weather. Because of that, Indy had it's work cut out for it, especially because of the cold winter weather. The results were, of course, very positive, and all the hard work, time, and money put into it was worth it. It gave us something to be known for besides corn, soybeans, and Indy cars. I think we should at least bid to be able to hold a Super Bowl again (hopefully at least once more). The committee members have shown that the city can be transformed and can hold large numbers of people. Though I'm tired of hearing everything about the Super Bowl, I really am proud of the people who made our city just the destination to be for that super weekend.

    1. I agree with the super bowl being here only one more time. I feel aa though people liked Indy enough to want to come back, but I don't think people will be vacationing to Indy any time soon. I also agree that all of this superbowl talk has to stop sometime here soon.

  5. I think that Indy should host the Superbowl again. Mostly because it attracted millions from around the country. These people stayed in hotels and bought souvenirs and such, which helped our state's overall economy. It also helped Indy gain popularity among the nation, which, before, was pretty low in terms of interest. I believe that if Indy was to host the Superbowl again, more people would come and contribute to Indy's overall growth, especially if the weather was better/warmer during the event.

    1. I agree, it did attract a lot of people and helped out our state's economy.I also agree that we gained popularity as a state.

    2. I agree it gained a lot of popularity for the city and helped out the city and bring more attraction to indy

    3. I agree, we have now gone from a boring, no name city to a city that everyone through-out the country knows about now

    4. I think most people find Indy to be the state you have to go through to get somewhere better but I agree that the Superbowl did in fact help us gain popularity as a state, and the money that came with it was nice as well

  6. Yes. The host committee did an excellent job with the prep along with all of the activities. Sure the weather had a good impact but with the free concerts and stuff people go anyway. I personally had an awesome time while I was downtown. It was crowded at times but the way the police handled it was smooth. All the money and time spent to make it happened was well worth it. There were very few people who said that they weren't welcomed (mainly Patriot fans). Regarding the road closures, if people would watch the news they knew in advance at least 3 weeks which roads would be closed. Even when they had to close more streets it still went smoothly. I think that it would be great for Indy to host another Super Bowl. Maybe once every 5-7 years. There were so many activities to participate in that really made people feel like they would like to come back again. The zipline was probably everyone's favorite. But if we do get the Super Bowl again it would be cool if they would have two so that there could be more people who get to go on it and experience it. I would like for there to be another Super Bowl just to experience it again

    1. I think you bring up a great point with the free concerts. Besides the zip line, I think that was one of the biggest draws because some big names and artists in the music industry were giving a sold out concert for free. I also think what you said about the police was an excellent point as well. I think the Super Bowl committee gets most of the credit, but without the great police officers we have, in which whom all worked over time, made the changes and transitions much easier than imagined.

  7. I think that what Indianapolis did proved to many people that we are a better city for big events like this. Everything is so contained and put together that people weren't having to drive much to go places for superbowl fun. However, since everything is so together, I feel like when you've seen it once, you've pretty much seen it all. Ergo, I don't think that we should host the superbowl again, but other big events like this would be good. Or maybe we could host it once more, but then after that we should for sure stop. More than anything however, I think that it was worth the money we invested. I know personally, since my brother works there, that St. Elmo's made the most money that they have ever made in one night in all of forever. So if they did pretty wellm I would assume others did as well. It definetely helped our city's economy.

    1. I completely agree with you on only hosting the Super Bowl maybe one other time. I think it would be fun to bid maybe more than once, but I think it would also be biting off more than we could chew. This year, it was great; everything went so smoothly. Our city greatly benefited from it, and it was such a big draw to people from all over. I do believe, however, if we had it many more times, we could get ourselves into trouble because of our weather. We know that what we saw during super Bowl weekend was not normal winter weather. I think if we went for more than once our twice, we'd jinx ourselves.

    2. I do believe that we proved that Indiana isn't just corn and we can throw some awesome parties and be a great host city. But, I believe that we should host big events more to attract others to Indy.

  8. I think that Indy was a great host city, and should continue trying to be a host city. It was much worth the whole price, because in the end, we were benefited by the price. Many people were saying Indianapolis was a great city because it wasn't too small, but not too big. They also said you could walk to everything downtown and enjoy the day. Indy should try and host a Super Bowl maybe once or twice every 10 years. I think the weather played a small factor in people's opinions because it was 40's all week with no snow and rain one morning.

    1. I agree that Indy's size wasn't too small or too big. The walking distance was very convenient for the people staying in the hotels.

    2. I agree. The size of the city also makes or breaks how the event turns out. Luckily Indianapolis is small enough that people can walk around anywhere they want to go but still big enough that there are many attractions to see and things to do.

    3. I agree that the size of Indy really helped make the Super Bowl succeed the way it did. I also agree with the fact of the weather. Since it was the first Super Bowl for us even if the weather was colder, lots of people still would come out.

    4. i sadly have to agree with matt brown i enjoyed everything and it was great for our state. the walking distance and convenience was awesome and eveything when great!

  9. I think Indy should invest the time, money, and effort for another Super Bowl becuase this event gave our city a good name. People are already talking about having another Super Bowl here as soon as possible. I feel like we spent a lot of money preparing for the game, but we also made a lot of money from hotels and restaurants. I also think we benefit from hosting the game because we earned respect from those who visited and and most people had a great time. We should host the big game every 6 years. The weather played a big role because people dont want it to be cold while watching the Super Bowl. They want it to be hot outside so they can drink lots of beer

  10. I think Indy was a great host city as well. They should invest the time, money, and effort and try to get another super bowl. I think it was worth the money paid, and time, and road closings. I think the city does benefit enough from hosting it because people seemed to have fun and we could attract more people here even without the super bowl. I think we could host the super bowl about every four to five years. I do not think the weather played a role in people's opinion because its the super bowl and weather is not going to stop people from going. Also we did things to make it warmer and and had things to keep you from the cold weather.

  11. We should host the supervowl here because that was realy good for our state and for our exonomy state and it was a good idea. There was a ly to do and even tho it was hectic we still had a lot of positives. There was so much to do and it wasnaomething different not only for the people who live here but also for the people who came to visit i think we dis a good job hoating the shuperbowl

  12. I think it was worth it because of the revenue and all of the people coming into town for the super bowl helps out the economy. We set records for super bowl attendance for super bell village. I think it is a great idea

  13. considering Indiana's one of the most boring states there is, hosting the super bowl was def. a highlight around here. i enjoyed a lot of the fun activities and attractions all over Indy the weather was fantastic, which i do think we were fortunately enough to have and im not sure if we would have as fantastic of a turn out as we did if it would not have been so great out.. the tents and other outside attractions helped though, on the colder nights but i think it would be awesome for Indy to hold the super bowl again, it was all worth it! even the annoy street closures

  14. I feel that Indy did a great job of hosting and weather had no role in whether people went or not. however I believe we should only host the Superbowl one to two more times, people will begin to get bored of Indy and eventually things will not run so smoothly which will frustrate people. I think it was definitely worth it.
